CHRIS SUTTON has had a go at his mate Neil Lennon’s doubters after the Celtic manager pulled off a stunning victory in Italy.
The bhoys rocked up to Rome against a side sitting fourth in Serie A and with the countries top scorer and Celtic had the talent and the mental strength to beat them on the night.
Chris believes Lennon had not been given enough credit from a certain quarter of the Celtic fanbase and a lot of pundits before the Lazio result. Now as his Celtic side qualified for the tournament with two games to go, there should be some humble pie being consumed.
“Lennon deserves enormous credit for what he’s instilled into his team and that’s before you talk about his tactical acumen.” Sutton told Record Sport.
“He’s old school, he’s not modern. That was the junk trotted out by some so-called experts and fans when Rodgers left in February and Lennon took his place. Brainwashed by Rodgers’ chat and talk.
“I’m not going to criticise Rodgers. He was a cracking manager for the club and did a superb job. But if anyone can’t see Lennon is just as capable, they don’t know football.
Celtic are top of both their Europa League group and SPFL albeit on goal difference at the moment.
There’s a lot of work still to be done but Chris Sutton is right in what he’s saying. Anyone who has been discrediting Neil Lennon to this point and still can’t get on board should have a word with themselves.
