Chris Sutton Reveals Celtic Champions League “Challenge”

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has discussed the challenges he believes Celtic will face in the Champions League next season following the current campaign.

Sutton said: [Sky Sports], “The supporters want to see the team challenge or make a better fist of European competition.

“This season, you have to say it was a disappointment. It was quite a gentle group Celtic were in in the Champions League, and to end up finishing bottom was unacceptable.

“I think that the club sat on their hands when they won the league last season. They had time to plan and weren’t ready for the Champions League.

“Without being too negative I think that was pretty much unforgivable.

“Celtic fans want to see their team competing in Europe again so that will be the next challenge.”

With the new Champions League format, Celtic must invest in the squad in the summer, and Brendan Rodgers will look to improve the team with quality over quantity.

Celtic will likely appoint new people to oversee recruitment in the coming weeks, and Rodgers will have a big say in this.

It is crucial that the manager and recruitment are aligned, as the Irishman has worked well despite challenges in this area this year.
