Chris Sutton has suggested that Cameron Carter-Vickers was at fault for Rangers’ late winner in Sunday’s Glasgow Derby, claiming the American defender “ducked” out of a header before Hamza Igamane rifled home the decisive goal.

With the game locked at 2-2 in the dying minutes, a ball was played over the top of the Celtic defence. Carter-Vickers appeared to hesitate, allowing it to drop instead of clearing it with a header. Alistair Johnston then slipped, and Igamane took full advantage, smashing an unstoppable strike into the top corner to secure Rangers’ first league win at Celtic Park since 2020.
Sutton, who was on Sky Sports commentary duty, pointed out that Carter-Vickers’ decision not to contest the aerial challenge was a key moment in the goal.
“Cameron Carter-Vickers actually ducks out of the header initially,” Sutton said.
“Then Alistair Johnston stumbles. I mean, it’s a stunning finish, it really is.”

Carter-Vickers has been one of Celtic’s most reliable defenders since arriving at the club, but this moment will be one he won’t want to watch back. While Johnston’s unfortunate slip ultimately sealed Celtic’s fate, Sutton believes that if Carter-Vickers had attacked the ball, the chance wouldn’t have developed.
The defeat doesn’t change the title race, with Celtic still holding a 13-point lead at the top, but Rodgers will demand a response from his side after a disappointing defensive display.
