Chris Sutton Makes ‘Asterisk’ Claim Over This Season

CHRIS SUTTON was clear in his message about his former side’s moniker of the ultimate Invincibles.

The player turned pundit was discussing the astonishing Scottish Cup exit of the Hoops Glasgow rival’s on Sunday evening and he’s adamant that even if they go through the full domestic league campaign without a loss, they’re not a patch on the Brendan Rodgers side.

During the 16/17 season, Celtic would begin the first of four trebles in a row by going the whole season undefeated in the League, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup. It was an incredible feat by a team who just didn’t know how to lose.

Compare and contrast that to what we see from the current champions. It’s not really a contest and while Robbie Savage was calling them invincibles, Sutton said there would always be an asterisk.

“How are you calling them the Invincibles? Brendan Rodgers’ team were unbeaten in the league and won the cups.” Sutton said live on bbc radio. [Cited by SUNSPORT]

“They are the true Invincibles. You cannot call Steven Gerrard’s team the ‘Invincibles’. Invincibles asterisk.”

Rodgers side was special, they played incredible football and they won all three trophies. That’s true invincible status.

Of course, Celtic have one last opportunity to put the whole thing to bed if they were to grab a win at Ibrox on Sunday.
