Chris Sutton Left ‘Stunned’ by Lawwell Decision

CHRIS SUTTON has written in his RecordSport column he was left STUNNED after Celtic’s decision to announce Neil Lennon had been offered the Celtic job, minutes after the players had lifted the treble treble.

The former Celtic striker has been an advocate of his former teammate getting the full time Celtic gig for the second time since coming is as interim boss. However, even he was surprised by the timing of the announcement.

Sutton seemed confused by Peter Lawwell’s statement saying the Cup final win wasn’t pivotal to Neil being offered the job and brought up the great point – why not announce it sooner?

“Like most people I was pretty stunned in the aftermath of Hampden when the news broke that Lennon was offered the post,” he wrote in his Record Sport column.

“Not totally by the fact that it had happened, more with the timing.

“Peter Lawwell stated after the game Lennon was always going to be the choice regardless of what the outcome was in the Scottish Cup Final and that is fair enough.

“But if that was the case why not just give him it beforehand?”

It’s a very good point by the BT Sports pundit. If it was always Neil’s job then why leave it until after he’s secured the cup and then why announce it so soon, before he’s even thrashed out a deal with the Irishman.

Something just doesn’t add up with regards to Lawwell’s story.
