Chris Sutton Hails Brendan Rodgers as the Glasgow Derby Master

Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has lauded Brendan Rodgers as the Glasgow Derby “Master” in anticipation of the upcoming Scottish Cup Final against Rangers, the first such meeting in 22 years.

Writing in the Daily Record, Sutton highlighted Rodgers’ impressive track record in derby matches.

This season has seen Celtic dominate their encounters with Rangers, securing three wins and one draw in four matches. Rodgers’ overall derby record boasts 13 wins out of 17, a testament to his understanding and execution in these crucial fixtures. He’s only suffered a loss once in a derby.

Such numbers not only boost the team’s confidence heading into Saturday but also solidify Rodgers’ reputation as a tactical expert in one of football’s most intense rivalries.

Sutton’s endorsement comes at a critical time, with the Scottish Cup Final not just a chance for silverware, but a chance to secure a double. He noted, “Rodgers has delivered the one that counts in a season where it could have slipped away and, in doing so, he has proven he is still a master in the Old Firm fixture.

“With three wins and a draw from the four matches and 13 wins from 17 overall, Celtic’s fans know they go into next season with a manager who is capable of dealing with their biggest rivals and that means he is not going to be doubted going forward.”

The distinction Sutton draws between the desires of the two managers is striking; Rodgers wants to win, while Rangers’ manager needs to win. So the pressure is really on Rangers at Hampden.

As Celtic prepares for the match, there is a prevailing belief that if they play to their best ability, they could secure the victory at a canter.
