Chris Sutton Gives Celtic Three Transfer Priorities For The Summer

Despite the Celtic players beginning to report back to Lennoxtown for pre-season yesterday, there has been little movement from the club in the summer transfer window so far.

Fans are quietly becoming frustrated at the lack of activity from the champions, but there remains a way to go yet before concerns become significant.

Over the next few weeks, there are some key areas of Brendan Rodgers’ squad which need strengthening.

Indeed, former Hoops striker-turned-pundit Chris Sutton has outlined some priorities for his old club this summer.

“He (Brendan Rodgers) has to go for a goalkeeper”, he said (Sky Sports via Football Scotland).

“Joe Hart was brilliant for three seasons and Celtic and will be a big miss and big gloves to fill.

“That centre forward position, Adam Idah arrived in January and not everybody was sure about him. He performed really well. I would be surprised if Celtic are not trying to get a deal over the line with Norwich City.

“They certainly need strengthening in that centre-forward position.

“The other thing is hanging on to Matt O’Riley. If Celtic want to do well domestically and have a go in Europe they have to keep the best players and Matt O’Riley was Celtic’s best player last season.”

It would be a prosperous window if Celtic were able to meet all of Sutton’s priorities.

The summer will undoubtedly be busy for Rodgers and Co., and we should expect to see activity ramp up over the coming days and weeks.

The season begins in little over a month and between now and then, the manager will want to trim his squad to one that provides the quality and equal depth to maintain domestic dominance and compete in Europe.
