Chris Sutton Demands Celtic Board Deliver Three Key Signings

Chris Sutton has urged the Celtic board to act decisively in the transfer market, insisting three key signings are still needed if the club are to compete seriously on all fronts this season.

The former Hoops striker identified glaring gaps in the squad as the new campaign looms, with concerns around depth and quality in crucial positions.

While Celtic made early moves in the window, the momentum has stalled. The wide areas remain threadbare, and Sutton has made it clear where reinforcements are essential.

Asked which positions need strengthening, Sutton said:

“A striker. I think left-back is still an issue as well,” he told RecordSport.

“I think the signing of Kieran Tierney is really exciting. They’ve got Inamura in as well, but I still think that’s an area of concern.

“I think Greg Taylor’s a loss. I think he’s a big loss, playing that inverted role.

“I always felt sometimes Greg in one vs one situations at the highest level may get caught out.

“I thought he was so good in that inverted role and integral in Celtic dominating the middle of the park and he played that very, very well.

“He’s going to be really difficult to replace in that respect.

“Jefrrey Schlupp’s gone back and he’s ended up at Norwich actually. Jeffrey Schlupp, that’s an area which I think the Celtic are short on.

“You look at the wide areas, losing Nicolas Kuhn even though it was good money.

“If anything happens to Daizen Maeda, you’re in trouble.

“James Forrest. You’ve got Yang. I think Marco Tillio’s back as well.”

Sutton’s comments echo wider concerns among the support. With just weeks remaining in the window, Celtic still need to act on three fronts: bring in another striker to support Adam Idah, replace Taylor with a proven left-back, and secure a winger capable of making a real impact.

Inamura may be forcing Rodgers into a rethink at left-back, though. He did come in as a “club signing” and Brendan Rodgers made that very clear. A loan was earmarked for the player this season, but he has impressed in pre-season and could now be set to play backup to KT this term.

But Celtic still must strengthen now, or risk falling short.
