CHRIS JULLIEN has spent fourteen months sidelined due to a horrible injury in 2020. After finishing his rehab and returning to match fitness, the defender has made just one appearance for Postecoglou’s side.
Many expected Jullien to offer back-up to the partnership of Carter-Vickers and Starfelt. However, Stephen Welsh looks to be holding that position.
The French defender has struggled to make the bench for the last few matches, although he did reappear for Celtic’s cup match but failed to get onto the pitch.
Kieran Devlin of the Athletic has written that Celtic may look to move the player on this summer, especially with his contract about to enter the final year.
“On Jullien, I understand that Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers are very settled as a partnership more than anything else.
“I understand there is nothing significantly wrong with Jullien’s recovery after 15 months out with injury, however, by the summer he will have only one year left on his contract.

“When combined with the possibility that Carter-Vickers decides not to turn his loan from Tottenham Hotspur into a permanent move, it makes the centre-back question this summer an intriguing one.
“Even if Carter-Vickers is re-signed, Celtic will be looking to strengthen their centre-back pool with someone possessing a more natural ball-playing skillset suitable for Postecoglou’s desire to build from the back.
“There is no plan in mind for Jullien this summer as things stand, but it could be possible that he is moved on to make room for this newcomer.”
It’s reassuring to hear that there have been no hiccups in Julien’s road to recovery; a run of games may be what he needs. However, Celtic can’t afford to experiment with players at this moment. With just eight league games left this season, Celtic can’t spare any points.
