£3m Upfront; Fresh Info on Celtic Striker Pursuit

SPORTS SEOUL is reporting Celtic remain one of the front runners for Cho Gue-sung despite the heavy interest in the player from elsewhere in Europe, America and even across the city in Govan.

The Korean Sports website reports Cho’s current club Jeonbuk are ready to sell but they’re pushing for potential buyers to pay the whole fee up front instead of a structured deal.

Structuring instalments on transfer deals is nothing new and it’s something clubs practice all the time. Effectively Celtic have delayed paying for Tomoki Iwata until the summer by only bringing him in on-loan until June, but then an obligation to buy the players permanent contract kicks in.

Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson will be locked in negotiations with the Korean club.

Despite MLS clubs interested in the World Cup Striker, it’s believed Cho wants his next destination to be Europe.

Celtic’s bid is believed to be around the £3m mark, a fee Jeonbuk were not expecting and which has expedited their desire to sell in January instead of the summer.

Celtic seem very keen to get this deal done. Despite being swift with plenty of deals since Ange took over, there are going to be deals that drag on that little bit more because the player has to take time to decide what’s best for his future.
