Charlie Wyke Transfer Latest – Player Confirms Exit

It’s been a running rumour for a few weeks now but the Charlie Wyke transfer saga could be set to come to an end.

The Sunderland striker confirmed on Instagram he will NOT be re-signing with the club and thanked the supporters for backing him while he was at the Stadium of light.

It was last week when SunSport reported Celtic were leading the race to sign Wyke on a free transfer. Since then, the trail has gone cold on a potential move to Glasgow.

Today, reporter Alan Nixon claimed Wigan have now entered the race to sign the striker and are best placed to sign Charlie in time for next season.

While the player was a goal machine for Sunderland last season, we’ve spoken to many Sunderland supporters who believe Charlie is not of a good standard for Celtic.

They cite the player’s lack of mobility more than anything.

A penalty box striker who gets goals in and around the six-yard box. I don’t think Celtic fans would mind a striker like that but Ange Postecoglou is looking to play a high intensity type of football where everyone needs to contribute.

Wyke’s wouldn’t fit that bill at all. Perhaps the player is best heading to Wigan.
