Charlie Nicholas Wants Roberts Dropped for Forrest

JAMES FORREST is being hailed for his last two performances in a Celtic jersey that seen him score four goals in the process.

This has lead to calls for the midfielder to start at Ibrox on Saturday and potentially leave out Patrick Roberts in the process. There is now a compelling argument to be made that this should happen, you should, of course, play your in-form players. However, Patrick’s struggle in the Dundee game was down to Brendan Rodgers playing him out of position to accommodate James Forrest. The player didn’t relish the number ten role like Callum Mcgregor or Tom Rogic – he struggled.

People can bang the drum all day about James Forrest and gush over the player but I’ve seen this all before and even as recently as the start of last season. The player takes an upturn in form but fails to sustain it, Forrest did the opposite of a Stuart Armstrong and Dedryk Boyata where he played his best games early on, only to fall away. Same under Deila where it looked like the player had turned a corner only for him to blow hot and cold.

He has kicked his form back into life over the past month and as I say there is a compelling argument for him to start on Saturday, however, I would hope Patrick Roberts gets the nod in his correct position.

Patrick is a cut above James and there’s no denying that. The Englishman was brought in for important games after a relentless summer pursuit, to leave him on the bench on Saturday would seem surreal.

I’m more positive towards James Forrest than a lot of Celtic fans seem to be and even I think Charlie Nicholas calls this morning to drop Paddy for James is absolutely ludicrous.

Until James finds a consistent level of performance, he’s always going to be second best.
