Championship Boss Speaks Out Over Reported Celtic Signing

Temporary Sheffield Wednesday boss Neil Thompson came out and defended reported future Celtic signing Liam Shaw when it comes to the 19-years commitment to the club, as they look to escape the relegation battle in the English Championship.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Thompson refused to be drawn into many comments surrounding Shaw’s pre-contract signing however, was quite to insist that Shaw is committed to his boyhood club and will do all he can to help his side.

When asked if he had spoken to Shaw since the deal was announced by Celtic manager Neil Lennon he said:

“That’s not my remit.

“Liam played the other night and did a good job. He put the work in without a shadow of a doubt and that’s as far as it goes.

“Every player who is here is committed to what we’re doing and what we’re trying to do.

“Even if you are not playing, you need to have the right attitude around the building and in training.

“We’ve had that and that has got to continue. It’s not just about one individual; it’s about the group. It’s the group that will get us over the line.”

The news of Shaw’s arrival was announced on Tuesday night, just hours after Wednesday were defeated 1-0 against Stoke City.

On social media, Shaw’s move has faced mixed reviews from the Sheffield Wednesday support with some angry and some understanding of his move. Overall though the fans seemed disappointed to lose a talent who had come through the academy and could go on to big things.

So far, there has been no official confirmation from the club on any social media platforms. Comments from Neil Lennon and his assistant John Kennedy had suggested that the deal was complete with the Northern Irishman even stating as such to the media.
