Champions League Winner Pays Tribute to Celtic Title Win

Celtic fans have had a lot to celebrate this week, with the Hoops securing their fourth league title in a row in emphatic fashion. A dominant 5-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice sealed the Scottish Premiership crown once again for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

One of the key men in this title-winning team has been experienced goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who joined the Hoops last summer and quickly made the number one shirt his own.

While this is Schmeichel’s first taste of a league title in Scottish football, it’s far from his first in football. The Danish shot-stopper famously played a huge part in Leicester City’s remarkable Premier League title win in 2016 – a moment that shocked the football world and made headlines across the globe. Since then, Schmeichel has added more medals to his collection, and his latest with Celtic adds another chapter to a long and successful career.

One former Leicester teammate who hasn’t forgotten about those title-winning memories is Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian winger was one of the stars of that famous Foxes side, and he later went on to enjoy even greater success at Manchester City. Now playing his football in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, Mahrez took the time to send a message to Schmeichel following Celtic’s title triumph. He replied to a post from the goalkeeper on Instagram after the final whistle at Tannadice.

Schmeichel’s arrival at Celtic was met with plenty of interest given his background, and he’s delivered when it mattered. He played a big role in helping the Hoops up until his injury in March during the international break.

He now faces a race against time to get fit for the Scottish Cup final. However, up until the injury, he was outstanding both domestically and in Europe.

For Celtic fans, seeing players from the wider football world recognising the Hoops’ success just adds to the moment. And with a Scottish Cup final still to come, there could be more to celebrate before the season’s out.
