Peterborough Football club appears to be the opposite of a well run club when it comes to keeping things professional. Since Celtic showed an interest in their striker Ivan Toney we have had several instances of either Barry Fry or Darragh MacAnthony pushing Celtic in the media to make a sizeable offer.
It’s not how Celtic do business, Posh Chairman MacAnthony has taken exception to Celtic supporters on twitter who have told him to sell Toney for a decent price. Twitter is a realm where people can type absolute nonsense with impunity. If a football chairman is getting flustered by comments from opposing football fans, he should not be taking it to heart or treat it with any real credence.
However, MacAnthony seems irritated by Celtic fans on the social media platform:
“I love the way fans come on Twitter and tell you the value of your players.” he told SunSport.
“I’ve had Celtic fans telling me we shouldn’t be charging that for a League One player – yet they want that League One player.
“There are Premier League clubs trying to buy him and they were quoting £5 million. We agreed a deal of a lot more for him and he was given permission to talk. So far nothing has happened.”
Toney has been on Celtic’s radar, but you would have to think with Albian Ajeti about to come into the squad – Celtic’s interest would be over. Fry and MacAnthony have come off as a pair of annoying used car salesman trying to punt their forward.
