Stark’s decision to step down marks the end of a distinguished career that spanned several decades, during which he made significant contributions to clubs and the national team setup, most recently as the head coach of Scotland’s under-19 side.

Born in Glasgow, Stark’s playing career was highlighted by over 500 appearances, where he notably represented St Mirren, Aberdeen, Celtic, Kilmarnock, and Hamilton Accies.

Over three years at Celtic Park, he racked up 74 appearances.

Transitioning into coaching after hanging up his boots, Stark returned to Celtic Park to serve as assistant manager to Tommy Burns. He briefly took the helm as caretaker manager following Burns’ departure in 1997, before Wim Jansen’s arrival signalled a new era for Celtic.

Stark’s coaching journey also saw him lead teams such as Greenock Morton, St Johnstone, and Queen’s Park.

In 2008, Stark took on the responsibility of managing Scotland’s under-21 side, a position he held for six years before an interim stint as the caretaker boss of the senior men’s team in 2012 further highlighted his capabilities and dedication to Scottish football.
