Celts On International Duty; Everything You Need To Know

Following a 1-0 win for Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon, the first international break of the season is upon us. And over the next two weeks, there are numerous Bhoys that will play for their countries.

Closest to home, captain Callum McGregor was called up for Scotland for their matches against Cyprus on Friday the 8th of September and England on Tuesday the 12th of September.

Odin Thiago Holm earned his maiden Norway under-21s call-up. His side will take on San Marino u21s and Latvia u21s in u21 Euro qualifying.

Hero from the weekend Kyogo Furuhashi will play for Japan, alongside winger Daizen Maeda. Hajime Moriyasu’s men are due to play two friendlies this month against Germany on the 9th and Turkey on the 12th.

Another two Celts who have been called up for an Asian nation are Yang and Oh. They will turn out for South Korea in friendlies against Wales and Saudi Arabia.

Gustaf Lagerbielke was called into the Sweden squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Estonia and Austria. Liel Abada is set to play for Israel versus Romania and Belarus as his side looks to make it to Germany.

Finally, two of Celtic’s newest recruits, Luis Palma and Paulo Bernardo, will play for their countries this September. Palma’s Honduras take on Jamaica and Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League whilst Portugal under 21s, whom Bernardo will play for, are due to face Andorra u21s and Belarus u21s in Euro u21 qualification.

In total, there are nine Celtic players due to represent their nations this month. It is positive for the club that so many men are internationalists, however, Brendan Rodgers will be praying all his Bhoys’ stay fit and able as the last thing the Irishman needs is more injuries.
