Celtic’s Sunday Win Showed Where Improvements Are Needed – Opinion

As much as Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Hibs at Easter Road was great and showcased a good performance, the areas needing reinforcement within the squad were clear.

The match saw Nicolas Kuhn opening the scoring and later setting up Callum McGregor for a stunning strike—potentially one of the season’s best and we’re just two games in.

The first half displayed Celtic’s dominance, with fluid control and aggressive play, though it yielded only two goals. The second half saw a reduction in intensity, yet the team maintained solid control, never seeming at risk of losing the lead.

Despite the win and a strong start to the season, the match highlighted crucial areas for improvement, particularly at centre-back and centre-forward. Liam Scales, despite his development under Brendan Rodgers last season, illustrated that he might not be up to the mark for Celtic’s European ambitions. Although a valued squad member, his first-half performance was less than reassuring.

He was the weak link yesterday and was really poor in the first half.

The striking position also presents concerns; Celtic’s depth is thin, with the team potentially one Kyogo injury away from a striking crisis. The departure of Oh without a ready replacement is perplexing, and with the clock ticking on the transfer window, securing Adam Idah becomes increasingly critical.

We saw the striker pick up an injury yesterday, and it looked to the the reoccurring one in his shoulder. He played through it, but having someone like Idah to come on would help a lot.

When you’re looking at the bench yesterday it was worrying. Some big moves are needed in the last few weeks of the transfer market.
