Celtic’s Summer Scouting Mission; Abu Fani Latest

Celtic have been very proactive this summer when it comes to getting business done. We’re just about to get back into SPFL action and the bulk of our transfer activity has already been concluded.

Hoops supporters who have followed the club in the 21st century will know that’s not always been a given. The club has scrimped and booted the ball down the road when it comes to getting deals done.

Securing the double signing of Jota and CCV can’t be underestimated.

The signings to supplement the squad and add quality in depth in positions like midfield (Aaron Mooy), defence (Alexandro Bernabei, Moritz Jenz) and Goalkeeping (Benjamin Siegrist) have all been well received.

But as Ange told Celtic fans after the Norwich win last weekend, there’s likely still to be business done in both directions before the end of August.

With that in mind, it’s interesting to see a transfer link reappear this week.

The bhoys were linked earlier this summer with a move for Mohammed Abu Fani, a defensive midfielder plying his trade with Maccabi Haifa.

RecordSport has reported the club did indeed scout the midfielder back in the summer when Israel were playing international football.

The same report claims Mohammed was told Haifa would not entertain his departure during Champions League qualification. Maccabi Haifa beat Olympiakos to progress to the next round of the CL playoffs and could make the group stage.

If Celtic have a desire to bring in the midfielder, they could be playing a waiting game. The bhoy’s squad are in a healthy position but a defensive midfielder could still add a lot to Ange’s side.

The 24-year-old could be a direct replacement for the former Israeli Celt Nir Bitton who moved back home in the summer.

Celtic are in a good position to wait on a deal like this. It’ll be interesting to see when movement might come.
