Brendan Rodgers recently confirmed that left-back Greg Taylor will be missing for a few weeks amid a calf injury he sustained at the end of the Hoops’ clash with Buckie Thistle on Sunday.
Such news comes as a notable blow for the Hoops, who have yet to bring in someone in said position to challenge Taylor despite having 26 days of the January window to have done so.
Taylor has started more or less every single game for the Celts this season but on Saturday against Ross County, he will be unavailable. Due to this, Rodgers will have to decide on who fills in for the Scotland international, and he has three options to pick from.
The first and most sensible would see Liam Scales move across to left-back. Although he has played at centre-half all season, the Irishman is more than adept at full-back. Moving him there would also allow a return for Cameron Carter-Vickers to the team, and a third consecutive start for the rising Maik Nawrocki at the heart of the backline.
On the other hand, Rodgers could elect to play a natural left-back in Taylor’s place. The only other first-team one of those at the club is Alexandro Bernabei, however, he has played just 71 minutes of competitive action all season.

The Argentine is not match sharp, but would provide a different dynamic to the physical, and much more defensive, Scales.
The third option the manager has is perhaps the most ‘out there’ suggestion. It would be to disregard both first-team options and hand Mitchel Frame his maiden senior start.
The 18-year-old made his first-team debut against Feyenoord last month and impressed. Considering, though, he played 90 minutes, and scored, for Celtic B on Wednesday night away at Southampton, an inclusion on Saturday seems a tad improbable.
One should never say never, although it seems most likely Rodgers’ fellow countryman Scales will be put out to left-back on Saturday. He has played there in the past and given his sharpness and current form, there should be no qualms about him turning out in said position.
