Celtic’s January Transfer Priority – Chris Sutton

Celtic’s goalless draw with Hibernian on Saturday has posed many questions about the levels and depth of Brendan Rodgers’ squad. Appearances for the likes of Mikey Johnston and James Forrest off the bench weren’t the most encouraging for supporters.

Former Hoops striker and cult hero Chris Sutton believes the Irish gaffer will be keen to beef up his team in a few months’ time. He said on Sky Sports (via Glasgow Times): “There was a bit of fatigue there, once they made the changes Celtic looked a lot better and the passing was quicker and sharper. But they need to find a way to cope on both fronts and maybe the squad depth is something Brendan will look at in January.”

At a busy period of the season, it is certain Rodgers will need to utilise the full depth of his squad. Saturday was a prime example of this, but the quality of those who came in was questionable.

As Sutton pointed towards, January should be an intriguing month. At the end of the summer window, Rodgers openly admitted he would have liked to have added more depth to his team. He will have the chance to do so in a few months.
