Celtic’s OFFICIAL greatest ever team was voted on in 2002 by the fans at the behest of the club.
Here are the 11 players that were deemed the best of the best by our support back then. Which was comprised of TEN Scots and only one foreign export, but we’ll bet you’ve already guessed who that is!
Celtic’s Greatest XI
Ronnie Simpson
Danny McGrain
Tommy Gemmell
Bobby Murdoch
Billy McNeill
Bertie Auld
Jimmy Johnstone
Paul McStay
Kenny Dalglish
Henrik Larsson
Bobby Lennox
This is of course always going to be subjective with so many fans having their own personal choices on who should have made such a starting XI.
However, we’re asking in the fifteen years that have followed since that vote, has any player made a case for bumping someone off that list?
Neil Lennon would be someone who I think would cause a lot of debate. Who else could be considered? This would have perhaps been an easier question had Celtic gone all the way in Seville back in 2003. We’ve had some impressive players over the past 15 years but has anyone left such an impression in a Celtic shirt that they can be mentioned in the same breath as a Lennox, Johnstone or Dalglish.
Over to you…
