Celtic’s European Super League Thoughts Revealed

Over the past 24 hours, the world of football has exploded with the news that 12 clubs will be breaking away from UEFA competitions to create their own European Super League.

This is clearly something that has been in the making and discussed for years but it is clear what the stance of those who are fans of the game believe.

Celtic’s current CEO, Peter Lawwell sits on the European Club Association board and was last night involved in an emergency meeting between a host of clubs and representatives.

As reported by Sky Sports, Lawwell and Celtic’s thoughts on the situation are in line with the majority across Europe and are supposedly ‘strongly against‘ this sort of breakaway.

Personally, as supporters of the club, this is likely what we would want to hear. The idea of this is disgraceful and shouldn’t even be in consideration, especially at the stage it is now.

However, I don’t think we would truly find out what those on the Celtic board would make of this sort of idea unless they were offered the chance.

There could be a possibility that with the amount of money on offer with a competition like this, that they might take a similar view to those already involved.

If we are to give them the benefit of the doubt, it would be positive to see Celtic join many clubs across the continent in going completely against it.

With this sort of proposal, it is putting the future of football as we know it at risk.
