DAVID WEIR has admitted something that was widely known among the Celtic fans for some time and one of our writers even documented the turning point and catalyst behind Celtic’s last two years of domination.
The former Ibrox assistant manager admitted that beating Celtic on penalties at Hampden two years ago was not only lucky but detrimental to what would come after.
The Rangers beat Ronny Deila’s side on penalties after 90 minutes plus extra time produced a 2-2 stalemate.
“In hindsight, I think, definitely, beating Celtic probably heightened a lot of people’s expectations in terms of where Rangers were really at, at that time,” Weir admitted.
“But Celtic reacted to that too. They reacted very well. They went out and got a great manager. We were a Championship team with a lot of lads who were having their first experience of Rangers and were learning about the club and the expectations.
