Celtic promptly confirmed the signing of Osaze Urhoghide this week from Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer.
The defender was out of contract at Sheffield and Celtic snapped the player up quickly.
When a young player, trained by one club moves for free to another club, FIFA step in and impose a fee to the buying club for the young player.
It all depends on how long the player was at his previous club and his age. The Star is reporting the fee Celtic will have to pay for Osaze will be around the £150k mark – not a bad fee at all if the Hoops can get this bhoy playing in the first team.
Osaze has only been with Sheffield Wednesday since 2019 which limits what they could get for the player. The two clubs are also able to come to a fee arrangement without the help of FIFA but the organisation steps in if the clubs cannot agree on a price.
The defender has been getting praise from his former club’s fans and the clips we’ve seen of him show a lot of potential. Let’s hope Ange can get the very best out of him and develop Osaze’s game.
