Celtic are reportedly working on a major contingency plan for football without fans somewhere down the lines.
Right now, any football games being played would delight fans everywhere — even if they could only watch from the comfort of home.
However, RecordSport reports the June 10 date is set to get pushed back even further — meaning any football being played in the short term looks bleak.
In the long term — Celtic are now seeking advice on a way forward.
RecordSport write:
‘”And SPFL bosses are already bracing themselves for that starting date being pushed back by as long as six months as Britain battles against the pandemic.
“It’s expected that Celtic will engage with team experts this week in order to work out a raft of emergency contingency plans in the event that Parkhead – along with grounds around the country – has to remain closed to fans even after the nation wide lock-down has been relaxed.”
The contingency plan could mean a lot of things. We’d be surprised if one of the topics wasn’t getting ALL Celtic games streamed live somewhere. Whether that be from Celtic TV or elsewhere — the club could sell TV season tickets to supporters until this pandemic is under control.
It’s all about the health and safety of the population and we have to be inventive and concede that once the stringent lockdown measures are lifted, it will not be business as usual.
The money lost in this scenario from no season ticket sales and no on the day gate — Celtic will suffer financially — as will most clubs.
Smaller Scottish clubs are in the firing line. The longer this shut down continues — the more st risk they’ll be.
