Celtic Women Keep Up Top Form With Hamilton Thrashing

Celtic Women kept up their terrific start to the 2023/24 season on Sunday as they put Hamilton to the sword in an imposing 7-1 victory. Said win kept up the Ghirls’ impressive start to the campaign after they defeated Montrose by nine goals to nil last week.

At the weekend, Fran Alonso once more named a strong team, and they most certainly delivered. Kit Loferski followed on from her opening day quadruple to get things going early doors. Amy Gallacher soon made it two before Chloe Craig got the third from the spot 17 minutes in.

Gallacher was at it once more at the half-hour mark to make it 4-0 to the Hoops, finishing off a great team move. Accies got one back before halftime, but three minutes into the second 45, Shen Mengyu restored the four-goal lead.

It then went 6-1 to Celtic with ten to go through Tiree Burchill, and new signing Celya Barclais got the seventh late on. The Ghirls sailed into the lead at the top of the SWPL table, thanks to the victory. With six points from six and an incredible goal difference of 15, Alonso’s side lead closest rivals, Rangers, by six goals on goal difference.

The Spanish gaffer would’ve gone home a happy man on Sunday evening. With his team top of the table and Spain winning the Women’s World Cup against England, it was a memorable weekend for Alonso.
