Celtic Women Draw With English Championship Side

Along with the men’s team, Celtic women were in action over the weekend. The Ghirls have played out a few friendlies so far in pre-season, the latest coming against English Women’s Championship side Sunderland.

The match was played behind closed doors and finished in a one-all draw. Colette Cavanagh opened the scoring for Fran Alonso’s side ten minutes in. She scored a teriffic goal from range into the top corner. Sunderland got themselves level, though, nine minutes prior to half time. Grace Eden netted for the Black Cats after it was cut back to her from the right.

There was no notable action in the second half and the game ended in a stalemate. It was yet another productive runout for the Ghirls whose preparations are continually being ramped up ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

On the opening day of the SWPL season, Celtic Women face Montrose at home. Before that, they play host to Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup this coming Wednesday.
