Celtic Weigh Up Move for Former Academy Keeper – Report

Celtic are reportedly considering a surprise move to bring Ross Doohan back to Parkhead this summer, with the former academy goalkeeper emerging as a potential replacement for Scott Bain.

As per The Herald’s Stephen McGowan, the 27-year-old is being looked at as a possible third-choice option, should Bain decide to move on in search of regular football. Bain has served as back-up in recent seasons but may look for a new challenge with his Celtic contract winding down.

Doohan, who is out of contract at Aberdeen at the end of the current campaign, has impressed when called upon at Pittodrie. The ex-Hoops youth product has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, stepping in when first-choice Dimitar Mitov has been unavailable. He’s actually faced Celtic this season.

A product of Celtic’s academy, Doohan was once drafted into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team squad but never made a competitive appearance for the club. He was part of the travelling party for the Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland in 2021 and featured on the bench for four other matches that season, including a derby win at Ibrox.

While he never broke through at Celtic, Doohan’s career has steadily progressed. After spells on loan at Cumbernauld Colts, Ayr United, Ross County, and Dundee United, he left Celtic permanently in 2022, moving to Tranmere Rovers, then Forest Green Rovers, and now Aberdeen.

Doohan would tick the homegrown box and offer a reliable, experienced presence as a third-choice option and someone familiar with the club.

With Celtic likely to be active in the market this summer and changes possible in the goalkeeping department, a return for Doohan could be a sensible piece of business to bolster the depth chart.
