Celtic vs Sarajevo – Three Stand Out Things We Noticed

CETIC beat Sarajevo 2-1 on the night and 5-2 overall to go safely through the next round of qualifiers. In doing so, the bhoys have set up a date with Kalju FC, the Estonian champions next week.

The bhoys were in control of the tie from the off and never looked in any real danger, a decent passage of play with some tidy footwork from Edouard put Ryan Christie through on goal and the player scored a neat finish.

Sarajevo scored out of nowhere in the second half and got the goal out of nothing after a mix up in defence with Boli the main culprit. Celtic will have to be better than this in later rounds of the competition but their slackness can be forgiven at this stage.

With the game at 1-1 and Sarajevo seemingly happy to take that result, the piled men behind the ball to try and stop Celtic from grabbing a winner on the evening. However, Callum McGregor found himself in some space outside the box and rifled a shot low and hard past the Sarajevo keeper.

Three standout things we noticed:

  • Boli is rapid and adds a different dimension to Celtic’s attacking play. Defensively his positioning was suspect.
  • Lewis Morgan is doing himself no harm with the way he’s playing.
  • Neil Lennon would rather play two guys out of position than play Anthony Ralston.
