Celtic return to league action today as they host newly-promoted Livingston at Celtic Park in a tie that comes sandwiched between their two-legged Champions League qualifier against Kairat Almaty.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had the option to postpone the fixture to allow for more preparation time ahead of Tuesday’s crucial second leg in Kazakhstan, but the decision was made to play on, with Celtic looking to maintain early domestic momentum.
Livingston arrive under David Martindale after securing promotion via the play-offs last season, with Falkirk taking the league title. It’s a big occasion for the West Lothian club as they return to the top flight but they’ll be facing a Celtic side looking to respond to midweek frustration and keep pace at the top of the Premiership.
The SFA confirmed that Kevin Clancy will take charge of the match, with David McGeachie and Chris Gentles running the lines. Steven McLean is on VAR duties, assisted by Graeme Leslie.
Supporters in the UK and Ireland won’t be able to watch the match live. However, Celtic TV will stream the game live for subscribers outside of the UK and Ireland. For those at home, highlights will be shown on Sportscene on BBC Scotland at 19:15.
Rodgers will be without several key players. Alistair Johnston is set for 12 weeks out after suffering a hamstring injury midweek, while Adam Idah and Auston Trusty have also been ruled out through injury. They join long-term absentee Jota on the sidelines.
With one eye still on Europe, Rodgers is expected to make a few changes but he’ll still want a convincing performance as the Hoops aim to build momentum before the long haul to Almaty.
