Celtic Unveil Shin Yamada Before Newcastle Friendly Win

Celtic’s latest signing Shin Yamada was welcomed onto the pitch at Celtic Park this afternoon ahead of the Hoops’ pre-season friendly win against Newcastle United.

The Japanese striker, who only completed his move to the Hoops earlier today, received a warm reception from the home crowd shortly before kick-off.

Yamada’s arrival was finalised this morning following a swift medical and international clearance.

Despite the tight turnaround, the 25-year-old was brought out to meet the support and was met with applause as he made his first appearance in front of the Celtic support.

The former Kawasaki Frontale forward becomes the club’s sixth signing of the summer and is the second new striker brought in by Brendan Rodgers during this window.

Celtic’s push to add depth and quality up top has been a clear priority, with Yamada joining a forward line already bolstered by the arrival of Callum Osmand.

Yamada scored 19 goals in the J-League last season and has been brought in to challenge for the starting spot up front.

His addition continues Celtic’s strong recruitment link with Japanese football, following the successful signings of Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate in recent years.

The timing of his introduction to the Celtic Park crowd suggests Rodgers sees him playing a key role in the upcoming campaign.

While today was only a brief appearance, the quick turnaround and immediate involvement highlight the club’s intent to integrate Yamada swiftly into the first-team picture.
