Celtic Transfer Update – Postecoglou Admission

The new Celtic manager has delivered an update on when he thinks there will be new faces through the door – but nothing appears to be imminent.

Speaking after the pre-season win against Sheffield Wednesday, the manager wouldn’t commit to any names he was asked about but did reveal some of the positions he needs to strengthen quickly. Here was his transfer update:

“I’m hoping over the next week or so we have some announcements.” Postecoglou told SunSport.

“We are looking at two or three people at a time.

“Confirm or deny, I would then be putting myself in a position where people think we have just one target for one position.

“There’s no doubt this squad needs bolstering.

“We have a lack of depth in areas. You look at centre back, wingers and at right back.”

Celtic don’t have a lot of time before their first Champions League qualifier and it’s clear we’re going to have to go into those ties with what we’ve got at the moment.

Even if someone does sign in the next few days or in the next week, it’s unlikely they’ll be up to speed in time for the vital European ties.

It does speak to how underprepared we are for next season even though we could have been planning since February when Neil Lennon left the building.

Dithering by the board and the now ex-CEO has put the manager in a tough spot going into these games.

We need real experience and players of quality to come in before too long. Our first SPFL game is at the end of this month and the first Derby is seven weeks away.

There’s no time to lose.
