We then had the reports a couple of weeks back that Barry Hepburn, another top promising young talent has had his head turned by Bayern’s, read more about that here.
On top of that, Manchester City are looking to bring in Josh Adam from the Celtic academy, read more about that story here.
Now it’s being reported by the Glasgow times that a number of clubs, including Manchester Utd are after Daniel Kelly from Celtic’s youth academy.
Celtic have had no choice but to try and bring youngsters through as early as possible because they simply can’t compete at the high end of the transfer market. The club have to be savvy and they have been with Callum McGregor and James Forrest shining in the first team. Kieran Tierney was another recent graduate who did the business also.
However, if we’re going to be cut off at the knees by clubs with more financial clout enticing youngsters to sign before they’ve signed a professional deal — the challenge becomes even greater for Celtic.
If anyone who shows signs of early promise gets snapped up by the top clubs it leaves us with very little options.
We need to look at the way we bring these players on and where we can improve so youngsters want to continue their progress with the club. Easier said than done.
