Celtic Training Overlooks Iconic Ground of 1967 European Cup Win

Celtic are currently training in Lisbon at the Cidade do Futebol complex, just a short walk from the Estádio Nacional, where the club won the European Cup in 1967.

With the stadium so close, it would be a surprise if the players and staff didn’t take time to visit the site of that famous win.

The Estádio Nacional, also known as Jamor, is where Jock Stein’s team became the first British club to lift the European Cup, beating Inter Milan 2-1 in one of the most iconic nights in Celtic’s history. The stadium still looks much like it did back then, making it a special place for any Celtic supporter or player to visit.

For years, Celtic fans have travelled to Jamor to see where it all happened. Many have walked through the same tunnel the Lisbon Lions used, visited the dressing rooms, and stood on the steps where captain Billy McNeill held up the trophy.

Staff at the stadium, including a well-known security guard called Carlos, have often welcomed visitors with informal tours.

However, after some recent problems with damage, new rules have been brought in. Since April, only small groups are allowed in, and visits are limited to 20 minutes during weekday mornings. These changes mean players will likely need to plan any visit carefully.

With major renovations set to begin at Jamor, this could be one of the last chances to see the stadium before it changes.

For the current Celtic squad, stepping onto the same ground where legends made history could be a powerful moment, one that reminds them what this club is all about as they prepare for the new season.
