Celtic’s search for a long-term midfield replacement for Matt O’Riley has brought Lennon Miller into focus.
The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising young players in the Scottish game, with consistent performances for Motherwell last season drawing attention from clubs at home and abroad.

O’Riley departed for the Premier League last summer, and Celtic have yet to fully replace his creativity and composure in the middle of the park. The club is understood to be exploring both domestic and overseas options, but Miller’s development has not gone unnoticed in Lennoxtown circles.
New Motherwell manager Jens Berthel is preparing for the new season but has already admitted that Miller may not be around to play a competitive fixture under him. The Steelmen appear braced for bids, with suitors expected to test their resolve in the coming weeks.
Journalist Roger Hannah believes Celtic could win the race for Miller if they’re willing to meet Motherwell’s valuation.
He said: (Clyde 1 Superscoreboard), “If you listen to Jens Berthel, the new Motherwell manager, when he was asked about Lennon Miller, I think he knows that he isn’t going to see Lennon Miller playing in a competitive game for Motherwell.
“He will go somewhere. Interesting listening to his dad, Lee, talk about the possibility of him going overseas. Following the path of an Aaron Hickey, Josh Doig, Lewis Ferguson, Gilmour and players like that. That kind of option in his career.
“But, if Celtic were first to the table and paid Motherwell £4.5 million, and offered Lennon Miller the appropriate salary. It would be very difficult to turn down.”
Celtic have been linked with a number of midfielders this summer, but Miller would represent a significant long-term investment. Still just 18, he’s already shown maturity well beyond his years, combining technical ability with a strong engine and intelligent positioning.

The next move will be crucial, both for Miller’s career and Celtic’s plans for reshaping the middle of the park. If the club see him as part of that vision, they may need to act quickly.
