Celtic to Honour Callum McGregor with Special Pre-Match Tribute Tonight

Celtic captain Callum McGregor is set to be honoured pre-match before tonight’s fixture against Dundee at Celtic Park.

McGregor made his 500th appearance against Motherwell on Sunday in a 3-1 win over the Well, with his debut coming against KR Reykjavík on 15 July 2014 in a Champions League qualifier, where he scored the only goal of the game.

Having won five domestic trebles during his time at Celtic, McGregor has had an unbelievable time at the Hoops. He became Hoops captain in July 2021 after Scott Brown’s exit, and gaining the armband seemed to spur McGregor on even more.

With Brown heralded as a once-in-a-generation Celtic captain, McGregor has followed in similar fashion. At 31, he still has a number of years ahead of him. Given his retirement from international football in August, he is set to extend his career at the Hoops.

With 6 goals and an assist from holding midfield in the Scottish Premiership this season, he has rolled back the years to his younger goalscoring best, with the added experience and drive he brings from the base of midfield.

McGregor is the leader for Celtic. He has gone on to become the core of the Hoops, from the dressing room to the pitch and even in press conferences.

In his time at the club, McGregor has shown himself to be one of the best midfielders to ever grace Celtic Park. With 9 league titles, 8 League Cups, and 6 Scottish Cups, he looks set to add to this incredible trophy haul come the end of the season.

With the Celtic skipper set to be honoured by Brendan Rodgers at 7:30pm, Celtic have called on supporters to arrive early for a ‘special presentation’ at tonight’s game.

Words simply can’t describe what McGregor has done for Celtic since his debut. With each manager he has worked under, McGregor has become a huge part of the team. He has gone from strength to strength year upon year, transitioning from right wing to attacking midfielder, and now, as Celtic’s talisman in a deeper, modified role.
