Former Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal has officially retired from professional football at the age of 37.

The Israeli international spent five years at the Hoops after joining from Maccabi Haifa in 2010 for a fee in the region of £1.2 million. Kayal made a strong impression in his debut season, earning a place in the SPL Team of the Year for 2010-11.

During his time in Glasgow, he won four league titles and two Scottish Cups, becoming a popular figure among supporters for his combative midfield displays.

After leaving Celtic in 2015, Kayal moved south to Brighton & Hove Albion. He played a key role in the Seagulls’ promotion campaign to the English Premier League in 2016-17. He later had a loan spell at Charlton Athletic before returning to Israel to finish his career with Bnei Sakhnin.

Kayal also earned 47 caps for the Israeli national team during an international career that ran alongside his club commitments.

Announcing his retirement via Instagram, Kayal shared a career highlights video with a short farewell message.

While injuries disrupted parts of his time at Celtic, Kayal’s commitment and quality in midfield earned him respect from teammates and fans alike. His contribution to a successful period under Neil Lennon won’t be forgotten.
