Celtic Summer Signing Named In B Team Starting XI

Callum Osmand will be involved for Celtic B this evening when they take on Clyde in the KDM Evolution Trophy at New Douglas Park.

The young striker qualifies to play for Stephen McManus’ side as he is still under 20 and has yet to make a handful of senior appearances.

The 19-year-old linked up with the club earlier in the summer after making the switch from Fulham. He agreed a four-year deal in June, committing his future to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Before heading north, Osmand spent three years in London, developing through the Cottagers’ youth ranks and representing their development team.

His first taste of action in a Celtic shirt came during a summer friendly away to Cork City. Soon after, he travelled to Portugal with the first team for their pre-season camp.

There, he featured in matches against Portuguese sides Estrela da Amadora and Sporting CP, gaining early experience in the Hoops during the Algarve leg of preparations.

Since then, Osmand has been a regular face in the matchday group but has had to be patient for competitive minutes. He was listed as a substitute when Celtic faced Newcastle United at Parkhead but stayed on the bench. The same situation unfolded at the Como Cup, where he was again unused in games against Ajax and Al-Ahli.

Tonight’s outing gives him the opportunity to get valuable time on the pitch and sharpen up in a competitive environment. For McManus, it’s a chance to see how the striker handles senior opposition and whether he can bring the qualities that persuaded Celtic to secure his signature.

For Osmand, the match could be a platform to show he is ready for more regular involvement. A strong display against Clyde would boost his case for further opportunities and underline his potential within the squad.

After weeks of waiting on the sidelines, he now has the stage to turn training ground work into matchday impact.
