Celtic Suffer Glasgow Cup Final Penalty Heartbreak

Celtic’s Glasgow Cup final against Rangers at Firhill ended in heartbreak as they lost 5-4 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in regular time. Despite showing resilience and determination throughout, the young Hoops ultimately fell short in the shootout.

The game was an emotional rollercoaster, with Celtic’s Rhys Dargie providing a dramatic equaliser in the final moments of the first half. Rangers had taken the lead in the 33rd minute through Kasanwirjo, but Dargie fired in a stunning shot just before the break to level things up.

The second half was equally intense, with both sides pressing for a winner. Celtic had the ball in the net early in the second half, but an offside call ruled out the goal.

As the match progressed, both teams had their chances, with Celtic’s Jude Bonnar and Corey Thomson coming close on a few occasions. Rangers, however, managed to hold firm, and despite Celtic’s efforts, the game went into penalties.

In the shootout, the pressure mounted, and the drama continued. Celtic’s Daniel Cummings saw his penalty saved, and Rangers converted their first spot kick. However, the Hoops responded with solid efforts from Mitchell Robertson and Corey Thomson, sending the shootout into sudden death. Robertson sent the keeper the wrong way with his penalty, keeping Celtic’s hopes alive. Lewis Dobbie would however fire Celtic’s sixth penalty wide, but Rangers were eventually able to convert their fifth spot kick, securing the victory.

Celtic had come so close to claiming the trophy, with Marcus Gill making a fantastic save on Rangers’ third penalty to keep the team in the game. However, it wasn’t enough, as Celtic’s final penalty was saved by Rangers’ keeper, ending the final in disappointment for the Hoops.

Even though they lost, the young Celtic players can be proud of their performance. They showed great effort and skill, and there were plenty of good moments to take from the game.
