Celtic Submit £6.5 Million Bid for Midfielder

Celtic have stepped up their transfer activity by submitting a £6.5 million bid for FC Augsburg’s Arne Engels. [Sky Sports]

The 20-year-old midfielder has reportedly expressed his desire to join the Scottish champions, signalling his readiness to make the move.

Engels has emerged as a key target for Celtic this summer, especially in the wake of Matt O’Riley’s impending £30 million transfer to Brighton.

However, the bid may face hurdles as FC Augsburg values Engels significantly higher, with expectations of offers in the range of €10-15 million (£8.5 million to £12.7 million).

So, Celtic will probably see their opening offer knocked back, but there’s not too big a difference between the bid and the asking price.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to add multiple quality players to the team and is not keen to “stiffen” the squad with bodies for the sake of it.

The transfer window is set to shut on Friday, so it’s going to have to be a busy few days for Celtic.
