Celtic Submit £3m Bid for Carl Starfelt Replacement – Report

As the Celtic faithful prepare for the impending departure of Carl Starfelt to La Liga side Celta Vigo, the club’s management is already making moves to fill the void left by the Swedish defender. Reports emerging from Sweden suggest that Celtic have identified IF Elfsborg centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke as a potential replacement.

According to Expressen, a well-regarded Swedish publication, Celtic have tabled an offer in the region of £3M for the 23-year-old Swedish international. Lagerbielke’s agent reportedly met with Celtic representatives on Sunday to discuss the details of a potential move.

The pursuit of Lagerbielke comes as Celtic look to reinforce their defensive line following Starfelt’s imminent exit. Despite a section of the fanbase being critical of Starfelt’s performances, his defensive contributions have been significant. Last season, Starfelt led the team in interceptions, clearances, and blocks, and was a reliable presence in the heart of the Celtic defence.

Lagerbielke, who has been making waves in the Allsvenskan, is seen as a promising talent capable of stepping into Starfelt’s shoes. At 23, he has already earned international recognition and has the potential to develop into a key figure at Celtic Park.

New signing Maik Nawrocki is also expected to play a key role in the post-Starfelt era. However, adding Lagerbielke would provide Celtic with more options and depth in defence, which could prove vital over a long and gruelling season.

In the meantime, as we bid farewell to Starfelt, we must acknowledge his contributions to the team and wish him the best in his future endeavours. The Celtic defence may be losing a key figure, but with Lagerbielke potentially coming in, the future still looks promising.
