Celtic Struggle to Shift Expensive Mistake

CELTIC look very unlikely to offload their goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas before the end of the season after the latest reports in Sweden reveal IFK who were interested in signing the Greek goalie are now looking elsewhere.

Afton Bladet reports the Swedish top-flight side have moved on from their reported interest in the Celtic goalkeeper to set their sights on Bournemouth’s Orjan Nyland.

The Swedish transfer window doesn’t close until the end of March and they’re able to sign players from across Europe until then, even with our window closed.

The hope was Barkas would go out and get some much needed game time and catch the eye of a club so Celtic can recoup some of the fee they paid for the stopper.

Right now, it looks like Barkas will continue to be Celtic’s third choice keeper behind Joe Hart and Scott Bain until the club can find a move for him.

Barkas only lasted one game this season as Celtic’s number one before Ange Postecoglou looked for a replacement. After the torment of last season, most players were given a fresh slate. A blunder in a Champions League qualifier at Celtic Park in Ange’s first competitive game was enough for Barkas to get the hook.

The GK has played one game since then when both Joe Hart and Scott Bain were missing through illness.

Will Celtic get any money back for the player they paid £4.5m [TransferMarkt] 18 months ago?
