Celtic Striker has ‘Huge Potential’ According to Ki Sung-yueng
Former Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-yueng has revealed the potential of fellow countryman Oh Hyeon-gyu.
The 21-year-old striker became Ange Postecoglou’s fourth January signing having added Alistair Johnston, Yuki Kobayashi and Tomoki Iwata to his squad.
He has so far made three substitute appearances for the Hoops but may hope to get some more game time in this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie against St Mirren.
Oh follows in the footsteps of former Celts Cha Du-ri and Ki as only the third South Korean player to pull on the Hoops.
Postecoglou admitted that the forward played a huge part in getting the deal over the line to join the Scottish champions as he had an ambition to play in European football.
K-League commentator exclusively told CeltsAreHere that there will be a huge interest from Oh’s homeland to see how he progresses and that all Celtic matches will be shown on live television.
One of those who will likely be tuning in is Ki who who currently players for K-League outfit FC Seoul.
He knows what it requires to be a top player at Celtic but reckons that Oh has plenty of potential and has no hesitations as to whether he can be a success in Glasgow.
“I think Oh Hyeon-gyu is a player with huge potential. He doesn’t have much experience in the K-League, but I believe he will show he is capable of making the leap to a higher level,” said Ki as quoted by [Football Scotland].
“I don’t have a relationship with Oh as I don’t know him personally, but I have watched him and he is a player with good physical attributes and speed.
“He is a young guy who is full of confidence in his own ability and energy. I read what he said about me when he signed for Celtic and that was an honour.

“Celtic are a club with incredible fans. Every time I played there I was amazed by the atmosphere, I can never forget it. It was a really good experience for me.
“Everything will be very different for him, as it was for me – the language, climate, and teammates. So it will be difficult for him to adapt at first.
“It’s important for him to accept this and keep calm about it and realise it will take time to adjust to his new surroundings on and off the pitch.
“But in Europe, you have to be proactive and not passive. He can certainly contact me if he has any questions about settling in there in Scotland.”
