Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has discussed the possibility of James Forrest being called up to the Scotland national team for EURO 2024.
With Forrest scoring two goals this afternoon against Dundee, after a goal last weekend against Aberdeen, he is certainly in a great run of form.
Rodgers spoke of the outside chance that Forrest will be added to Steve Clarke’s squad, with UEFA on the verge of extending national team squads for the competition from 23 to 26.
He said: [Daily Record], “He’s (James Forrest) had great moments with Scotland, certainly during my first time here, he was really pivotal for me and for Scotland. But the game gets quicker and evolves, the intensity of the game gets greater.
“But my focus is really on him producing and performing for Celtic and if he can do that, then we can have a great end to the season.”
Clarke will be more than aware of what Forrest is capable of, and with a seemingly growing list of Scottish players picking up injuries ahead of the tournament, if Forrest remains fit and continues to contribute for Celtic, he will do his chances no harm.
Rodgers himself does appear to get the best out of Forrest, interestingly playing him off the left-hand side at times, something which other managers have been more cautious about.
Yet again, the Irishman’s kind words and attention to Forrest’s abilities have paid off over the last fortnight.
