Celtic Star Won’t See Game Time This Season – BBC Pundit

PACKIE BONNER believes that Chris Julien will have to wait until next season before returning to the squad.

After 14 months of injury, the French defender has struggled to appear on the bench for Celtic, never mind start. Of course, coming back from a long-term injury is never easy, but something doesn’t seem right with the player.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, the former Celtic goalie said;

“No, he’s not ready. I don’t think he will be ready until he gets a run of games somehow, and I don’t know how they get a run of games now. It’ll need to be in the close-season when he’s getting some competitive games.

“I wouldn’t call the competitive as in league, but just competitive friendly games. You need to get those to get your match-fitness up.”

Also, bringing Jullien back at this stage in the season may unsettle the team. At the back, the pairing of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers has been solid. The defenders’ relationship has hit new levels as the season has gone on. Taking them out of the team in such an important part of the season may come back to bite.

With Jullien about to enter the last year of his contract, it’s make or break for him. The club will cash in on the expensive signing if it looks unlikely he can offer his services after summer, but maybe a couple of friendlies will do the player a world of good.
