Celtic Star Targeted by Missiles at Ibrox

Another Glasgow derby at Ibrox was marred by missile throwing from the home end, with Celtic goalkeeper Vini Sinisalo the latest player to be targeted.

In the second half, Sky Sports commentator Ian Crocker reported live on air that objects had been thrown at the Finnish keeper in the 57th minute. Broadcast footage showed Sinisalo clearing cups and a hard object from his six-yard box, while Rangers substitute Kasanwirjo—warming up at the time—was seen running onto the pitch to remove a glass Buckfast bottle that had been launched towards the goal area.

Here’s the Buckfast bottle:

It adds to a growing list of incidents where Celtic players and staff have faced unacceptable treatment during trips to Ibrox. The dugout has previously been targeted, and when Joe Hart was in goal, glass was hurled in his direction. In the January derby earlier this season, Arne Engels was struck by a coin—another shameful episode that highlighted the ongoing issue.

There is growing concern about the safety of players, staff, and supporters in these matches. Despite repeated warnings and condemnation, the pattern continues. The latest scenes will likely draw scrutiny from the SPFL and Police Scotland, but the question remains—how many more times will Celtic players have to face this before proper action is taken?

The club has yet to comment, but there will be pressure for both Rangers and the league to address these incidents with more than just words. Sunday’s scenes were disgraceful, and the lack of deterrents is only allowing this behaviour to persist.
