Adam Montgomery is poised for another loan move away from Celtic, with the 23-year-old set to join newly-promoted Livingston for the upcoming Premiership campaign.

David Martindale’s side secured a return to the top flight through the play-offs, seeing off Ross County in the final play-off tie over two legs after Falkirk clinched automatic promotion. And as they prepare for life back in the Premiership, they’ve moved to bolster their squad with the addition of the versatile left-sider.

Montgomery spent last season with Queen’s Park following previous spells at Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Motherwell and Fleetwood Town. Despite featuring in Brendan Rodgers’ pre-season plans, he now looks set for another loan stint to gain regular minutes.

The Daily Record reports that Montgomery had interest from clubs both north and south of the border, but Martindale convinced him West Lothian was the right destination for the next stage of his development.

He is still under contract at the club for another two seasons.

Montgomery looked to be breaking into the first team in 21/22 season after he made 16 senior appearances for the club under Ange Postecolgou.

Fans will remember his calm assist for Jota in Celtic’s first away win under the Aussie boss — a low, composed ball across goal that showcased the youngster’s poise under pressure.

Postecoglou praised the defender after that game, saying: “He showed tremendous composure. It was a simple pass across the goal, but at the end of the game when you need to win, he showed that composure. He is a very talented young player and hopefully he continues to do that.” [SunSport]

With first-team chances limited at Celtic this season, a full year of Premiership football could prove key for Montgomery as he aims to prove he still has a long-term future at Parkhead.
