RYAN CHRISTIE has rightfully made the claim Celtic were denied two penalties on the day at Easter Road with the referee refusing to give either decision for a reason unbeknownst to anyone but him. The player also points out the uncomfortable truth that a Celtic Player conceded a penalty last season for a tackle similar to both his and Bauer’s on the day.
Christie went one further and suggested it was the exact type of tackle Celtic got a penalty decision against them for last season when Izzy took down McGinn at Pittodrie.
“I’ve seen it back and I think it is a stonewall penalty.” Christie told SunSport.
“It is frustrating because, at that point, we were very much on top in the match.
“I think it is probably because I got a cross away that the referee didn’t give it.
“They seem to just try to play on, but, for me, it is a definite penalty. I think everyone can see that.
“I thought the later Bauer one was very similar.
“It reminded me that we got one against us at Pittodrie last season when Emilio Izaguirre slid in on Niall McGinn.
“I can tell you for sure that it would be given as a free-kick if it was outside the box. All it comes down to is that it is a late foul and it is doesn’t matter whether it is inside or outside the box.
“What happens afterwards is a penalty. It is frustrating not to get either of them.”
Celtic did enough in the game to warrant three points but a bizarre own goal and the lack of a competent referee made it a frustrating Saturday afternoon for the bhoys.
Not a world ending result but if officials do their job correctly it’s a different outcome.
Kevin Clancy has a shocker from start to finish and we’ll be watching closely if the SFA will drop him from the top flight for a week or two as punishment. We’re not holding our breath.
Celtic are still one point clear at the top of the SPFL and turn their attention to Europe. Cluj are back in town on Thursday night and the bhoys have a score to settle.
