MIKAEL LUSTIG has reiterated his desire to stay at Celtic Park beyond his current deal which ends in the summer but noted the club has not offered him one yet.
The Swedish defender has been at the club since 2012 when the club signed him on a free transfer from Rosenborg.
Since joining, Mikael has made 263 appearances for the bhoys and has also captained the Celtic side when Scott Brown has been injured.
Many fans feel Lustig is coming to the end of his best days and are conflicted about keeping the player longer if he’s not going to play a significant role in the Celtic team.
The defender is clear about what he wants to do, speaking to the Expressen the Celtic star laid down the gauntlet to Brendan Rodgers when he was asked about his current contract situation.
“There’s nothing really to say there, because it’s nothing.
“I have a contract with Celtic and hope to extend here. The ball lies with them. If they want me to continue, I will say here.”
Celtic are currently trying to bring in a new, younger full back for Lustig’s position. Things should become clearer once they have someone for that position. It’s clear Lustig would play back up in that scenario.
